Partial dentures

Partial Dentures

A partial denture, also referred to as a “removable partial dental prosthesis” provides a solution for patients who are missing one or just a few teeth. A partial denture is composed of one or more artificial teeth and is held in place by metal or plastic clasps that fit onto adjacent natural teeth. Because it is removable, a partial denture is easily accessible for cleaning or removal at bedtime.

Complete dentures

Complete Dentures

Also known as “full dentures” complete dentures are used when all the natural teeth are missing or need to be replaced. They are removable appliances that are held in place by suction. Many patients report some soreness at first, until they have time to get used to their new dentures, but should become more comfortable as time goes by.

Complete dentures are available in two types, Immediate and Conventional:

Immediate Dentures

Immediate dentures are manufactured prior to the removal of your natural teeth, using measurements and models of your teeth and gums that were completed by your denturist during your first visit. Immediate dentures are put into place as soon as your teeth are extracted, which means you never have to appear without teeth during the healing period, which can require as long as six months to complete. Be aware, however, that the healing process can cause your bones and gums to shrink, requiring they be relined at some point by your denturist in order to provide a proper fit.

Conventional Dentures

Conventional dentures are manufactured and available for insertion after your teeth have been extracted and the mouth has been allowed to heal. Conventional dentures are typically chosen by patients who are already experienced denture wearers but are ready to replace an existing denture.

Your denturist can provide additional information about the types of dentures available and the benefits provided by each. If you think full or partial dentures may be right for you, contact Landry Denture Clinic to schedule a free initial consultation.
